Milk/milk froth sprays/sputters (CVA 4xxx/CVA 5xxx built-in appliance)

The milk/milk froth is dispensed erratically by the coffee machine (sprays, sputters) (CVA 4xxx/CVA 5xxx built-in appliance).

The appliance needs to be descaled.

Start a descaling procedure. Proceed as follows:

  • Touch one of the arrow buttons repeatedly until Maintenance is highlighted.

  • Press the OK button to confirm.

  • Then select Descale.

  • Press the OK button to confirm.

  • Select Start.

  • The descaling procedure must be completed through to the end.

Once you have tapped the OK button, you cannot stop the descaling procedure.

  • Press the OK button to start the descaling procedure.

The display will guide you through the descaling procedure.

Follow the prompts on the display.

The milk pipework is clogged.

Ensure that all components in which milk is transported are cleaned carefully on a regular basis.

Milk naturally contains bacteria that rapidly multiply if the milk pipework is not cleaned properly. Soiling in the appliance may be dangerous to health.

CVA 5xxx: Clean the central spout.

  • Removing | Central spout cover | Built-in coffee machine
  • Pull the central spout all the way down (1).

  • Remove the lid by pulling it forward (2).

  • Pushing out | Central spout insert | Built-in coffee machine
  • Turn the lid over.

  • Push the insert up and out from inside the lid.

  • Clean both parts thoroughly.

  • Then slide the insert back into the lid until it clicks into place.

  • Removing | Central spout nozzles | Built-in coffee machine
  • Remove the nozzles from the central spout.

  • Pulling out | Nozzle rubber stoppers | Built-in coffee machine
  • Pull out the two rubber stoppers (1).

  • Thoroughly clean the nozzles and both rubber stoppers.

  • If necessary, pull off the air intake pipe (2). Loosen any blockages by kneading or blowing through the air intake pipe.

  • If the opening is enlarged, too much air will enter the milk froth.

This will then become too coarse and too thick.

Do not use pointed objects to clean the air intake pipe.

  • Then reinsert the rubber stoppers in the nozzles.

  • Pushing in | Central spout nozzles | Built-in coffee machine
  • After cleaning, push the central spout nozzles into the coffee machine and press them upward firmly to ensure they are positioned securely.

  • Replace the lid of the central spout.

  • Push the central spout up.

Clean the milk pipework.

To prevent the milk pipework from becoming blocked or the milk in the pipes from turning sour, you must clean the pipework at the end of the day using Miele’s cleaning agent for milk pipework.

The cleaning agent for milk pipework has been specially developed for coffee machines and completely removes milk protein and milk fats. You can purchase the cleaning agent for milk pipework from the Miele online store.

Start a cleaning process for the milk pipework with the cleaning agent for milk pipework. Proceed as follows:

  • Touch one of the arrow buttons repeatedly until Maintenance is highlighted.

  • Press the OK button to confirm.

  • Then select Clean the milk pipework.

  • Press the OK button to confirm.

  • Select Start.

  • Press the OK button to confirm.

The display will guide you through the cleaning process.

The milk pipework should be cleaned once a day for excellent results and the most enjoyable coffee experience.

For thorough and gentle cleaning of your coffee machine, we recommend Miele products which also care for your appliance at the same time.

CVA 4xxx: The water supply pipes were not filled before the first drink was prepared.

The water supply pipes of the coffee machine are pumped completely empty when the machine is delivered, and the coffee machine is also pumped empty during the descaling process. For this reason, you must pump water into the supply pipes before preparing a cappuccino or milk froth for the first time.

Pump water into the supply pipes.

  • Place an empty cup under the Cappuccinatore spout.

  • Touch the sensor control next to Milk froth.

  • The Cappuccinatore will draw in water for a while and start to fill the pipes with water. A small amount of water will run out of the Cappuccinatore spout!

  • As soon as the coffee machine has stopped, touch the sensor control next to Milk froth again.

  • After a while, steam comes out of the Cappuccinatore spout and the supply lines are filled with water.

You can now make a cappuccino or milk froth.

CVA 4xxx: The door of the coffee machine was opened during the heating-up phase.

Opening the door of the coffee machine causes increased pressure to build up upstream of the steam valve, meaning that the steam comes out of the Cappuccinatore spout with too much force during milk frothing.

Keep the door of the coffee machine closed during the heating-up phase.
