Only applies to appliance types DGC 6500 to DGC 6800 and DGC7XXX: The “Automatic rinse” function should be activated as a general rule. This function can be found in the “Settings” menu. This function ensures that minerals and salts that are dissolved in the residual water are rinsed out of the steam generator before they dry on.
Applies to all appliance types in the 6000 and 7000 series: The hardness should be set to the highest level. This allows deposits to be removed early and reduces the likelihood that the F11 fault message will occur.
For households with highly mineralized water: To put an appliance with the F11 fault message back into operation, use a commercially available liquid descaling agent that contains 30% pure, food-grade citric acid.
To descale the appliance, proceed as follows:
Switch the appliance off and on again.
Then restart the descaling cycle.
Follow the instructions in the display.
When the prompt to place the descaling tablets in the water container is displayed, fill the water container with approx. 3 oz (100 mL) of liquid descaling agent instead of the tablets. Top it up with hot fresh water.
Follow the rest of the display prompts until the descaling process is complete.
If the F11 fault message appears during or immediately after the descaling process, perform another descaling process without descaling agent (using fresh water only). This will remove any soluble deposits or descaling agent residue from the fill level electrode. It is not recommended to perform descaling with the descaling agent again or to use a higher concentration.
